Village Board Approves Borrowing Resolutions, Open House Events

Five resolutions authorizing borrowing a total of $4.37 million were approved by the Village of Fontana Board of Trustees at its monthly meeting Monday, August 4, 2008.

The Board also authorized staff to schedule and prepare for open house events to be held Saturday, August 30, 2008 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the new Mill House Pavilion and Porter Court Plaza. The Open House events were scheduled to coincide with the Park Commission’s “Pig in the Park” fund-raising pig roast event in Reid Park on August 30, 2008, beginning at 3:00 PM. Minutes

The Village of Fontana Board of Trustees approved the Renewal Liquor License Applications for the 11 license holders in the Village and approved the submitted Operator’s License Applications for the 2008-2009 licensing year at the regular monthly meeting on Monday, June 2, 2008.

The Village of Fontana Board of Trustees approved a Building, Site and Operational Plan amendment for the Abbey Resort Spa renovation project and two budget amendments at its regular monthly meeting Monday, May 5, 2008.

The Village Board also approved the annual Police Officer Memorial Day Proclamation and Municipal Clerks Week Proclamation, and an updated Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) Agreement at the monthly meeting. Minutes

Fontana Gas Station Has New Owner

The gas station on Highway 67 in the Village of Fontana has been sold by Rollette Oil Company to Don and Kathleen Ketterhagen, doing business as Fontana Corner Market, Inc., 286 Valley View Drive.

The Ketterhagens have applied for carryout liquor licenses to sell beer and liquor at the gas station/convenience store. The liquor license application is scheduled to be considered by the Fontana Village Board at its monthly meeting on Monday, January 7, 2008, beginning at 6:00 PM. Liquor License Hearing Notice

The Village of Fontana/Village of Walworth Ad Hoc Joint Services Committee met Wednesday, November 14, 2007, at the Walworth Village Hall, 227 N. Main Street, Walworth.

Three new fees were added to the Village of Fontana fee scheduled for building permits in an ordinance amendment approved by the Board of Trustees at the monthly meeting held Monday, November 5, 2007.

The Board also approved an amended Conditional Use Permit application filed by the Country Club Estates Property Owner’s Association and approved proposals submitted to provide village services in 2008. Minutes

Village Extends Moratorium on Lakefront Zoning Proposals

The Village of Fontana Board of Trustees approved an ordinance at its regular monthly meeting Monday, October 1, 2007 to extend the temporary moratorium on the on the acceptance, review and approval of land divisions and subdivision applications and condominium plat applications for lakefront properties.

A workshop meeting to draft the preliminary amendments to the lakefront zoning regulations has been scheduled for Saturday, October 10, 2007 beginning at 11:00 am.

The Board also approved an ordinance updating the Village’s Wellhead Protection Plan and denied a resolution to participate in the annual Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Chronic Wasting Disease Eradication Hunt at the monthly meeting. Minutes

Officers Receive Recognition at Village Board Meeting for Tracking Down Fugitive Colwell

The State Legislature and the Village of Fontana presented plaques of appreciation to the Walworth County Sheriff’s Department officers and U.S. Deputy Marshalls for tracking down and taking back into custody former Village and church official James Colwell. The special recognition presentation was made at the monthly meeting of the Fontana Village Board on Monday, December 4, 2006. Minutes

Village President Tom Whowell presented background information on the conviction and attempt to flee justice by Colwell and then introduced Walworth County Sheriff David Graves. Sheriff Graves stated Colwell was tracked down in Costa Rica and extradited thanks to the cooperative efforts of the Walworth County and Waukesha County Sheriff’s Departments and the U.S. Marshall’s Office. Graves stated that the officers kept working together for more than a year before they were able to locate Colwell in Costa Rica.

Deputy U.S. Marshall Paul Koenig stated that it took about one year to complete the extradition process after they located Colwell.
